Current methods of training in the Flight Standards Service (FSS) do not utilize 21st century technology to maximize training capabilities while reducing training costs and being able to adapt to changing learning environments. This project will explore best practices is utilizing a 21st Century Learning Management System (LMS) or Learning Content Management System (LCMS) that will support face-to-face learning, virtual classroom learning, and mobile learning. This system will include the ability to handle adaptive learning, modular learning, evaluation of learning, and rapid updating capabilities.
Expected Project Outcomes:
- 21st Century Personalized/Adaptive Training report.
- Comparison of different LMS software capabilities, including analysis of current FAA LMS.
- Analysis of current Flight Standards training requirements and recommended delivery approaches for each.
- A prototype lesson for an ASI training topic, including a sample of a screening test with adaptive learning capability.
- Final Report.
VALUE OF RESEARCH:
The goal of this project is to use LMS/LCMS technology to allow for customization and adaptive learning for FAA Aviation Safety Inspectors. In the long-term, this will transition from a training environment to a cost-effective workforce development environment. This project is aligned with the AJI Technical Training Strategy Roadmap three different areas: Content Platform, Process Redesign, and Technology. Within the content platform the project is viewed as part of Phase 2: Strengthen the organization and transition to enhanced training methods.
